Recuperator is a kind of air handling unit with heat recovery. It allows to reduce costs of heating the building through recovering heat from the air blown out from ventilation system in winter. The amount of recovered heat is called efficiency of the recuperator.
The principle of operation of the recuperator consists in striving for equalizing temperatures between two air streams flowing through its exchanger. In winter, when it is warm at home and cold air falls into the interior, the phenomenon of its heating by outgoing air occurs, what results in the increase of climatic comfort. The process of heat recovery contributes to significant reduction of the loss of ventilation heat, what in turn leads to reduction of cost of heating the building. In summer reverse process occurs – the air inside the house is cooler, the air outside is hot, so the air entering the building is cooled down by outgoing air.
The exchanger of the recuperator causes heat exchange between incoming and outgoing air. In winter we have the possibility to use central heating, which supplements losses of heat caused by opening entrance doors or permeability of walls, windows and roof. However in summer we have little opportunity to cool down the building.

In summer taken by windows and accumulated solar energy causes heating the interior of the building, giving so-called greenhouse effect. The larger the capacity of the building is, the slower the process proceeds. Large building made of stone, which is a material, which accumulates the heat, will have much greater thermal inertia than small house made of insulating building materials. Important shortcoming of buildings with high thermal inertia is relatively high cost of heating: house will be warm, if large amount of energy will be introduced into walls of the building. If we will air house with small inertia in winter by opening windows – its quick cooling down will occur. Similarly in summer – opening windows and airing with hot summer air will cause quick heating the interior of the building.

For well-insulated houses, effective solution is ventilation system with heat recovery, additionally equipped with cooling device: ground exchanger of heat or cooling system. Good insulation of the house and application of system, which recovers the heat (and in the summer the coolness) will allow to reduce the demand for energy. The costs of heating the house in winter will be reduced, while in summer effective cooling of the building will be possible.

Ventilation is the process of the exchange of polluted air for fresh air supplied from outside. It should take place in continuous way. Rooms, where there is not appropriate ventilation, are exposed to the increase of concentration of toxic compounds, carbon oxides, water vapour etc. The process of ventilation should be continuous. These components influence unfavourably the comfort of living and are direct threat for health and life of occupants.

Inefficient ventilation can lead to permanent dampness of elements of structure of the building, what in turn leads to the development of harmful for organism fungi and microorganisms. It is necessary to take care of proper ventilation already from the moment of drawing up design of the building to the installation and maintenance of ventilation system. Observance of required rules will have positive impact on the condition of the building and health and mood of users.

The main ventilation system applied in buildings is the system of gravitational ventilation. It is relatively simple in construction, but unfortunately not always effective in use. Its effectiveness depends on weather conditions (vertical distribution of temperatures, pressure, wind) and the structure of the building (ventilation openings, leaks, micro-unsealing). Therefore if only technical and economic conditions allow to do it, application of the system of mechanical ventilation is advisable.
Mechanical ventilation consists in forcing air movement through fans. There are two kinds of mechanical ventilation, most often applied in residential buildings:

  • Supply and exhaust system – in which fans as well supply as remove air from rooms
  • Exhaust system – the fan supports the ejection of air, while the inflow occurs through ventilators.

Thanks to application of mechanical ventilation, the exchange of air irrespective of weather conditions is possible. This system allows to ventilate rooms all the year round, also the control of air parameters is possible – supplied air can be for example heated or filtered.

The basic installation includes:

  • Distribution of air ducts (supply and exhaust) in rooms of the building (according to our optimized design of FLEX duct systems)
  • Installation of the recuperator on internal wall of the building together with the connection of supply and exhaust ducts,
  • Installation of air intake and ejector on external wall of the building (the price does not include the rental of basket lift, which can be necessary for work at the height)
  • Adjustment of supplied and extract air,
  • Checking correctness of operation of the device,
  • Connection of electrical supply,
  • Brief training of user in the range of operation,

The final cost of installation is given after sending design of the building or on-site inspection. Leading electrical installation is on side of investor or is additionally paid. Drainage of condensate gravitationally up to 4 m from the recuperator.
