Heat pump is fully ecological device, which allows to use natural resources of free energy. They are most often used to heat houses and residences. This revolutionary device allows to reduce charges for heating and simultaneously to ensure low financial expenses related to the use of the system. Furthermore the price of device pays off after several seasons, while the pump itself is ecological device, because it does not emit harmful substances to the environment.

The main application of as well ground as air heat pumps is obtaining energy for heating the house. Pumps can have very diversified power – from a few kilowatts to several dozen kilowatts. The heat emitted by the device is distributed through the system or radiators or underfloor heating system throughout the house. Heat pumps can also be successfully applied to heat water in kitchen, bathroom or swimming pool, guaranteeing its proper temperature and economical use.

One of the most popular and most frequently applied solutions for heating houses is a compressor heat pump. It has special refrigerant in circulation, which circulating after taking the heat evaporates. Then, as a result of the process of condensation, the heat is transferred through the exchanger to upper sources. In the evaporator and the condenser the change of phase occurs, in the valve the expansion takes place, while in the compressor – the compression. In all types of compressor pumps the principle of operation is similar as in the case of fridge, where the heat is received from the inside of fridge (keeping low temperature there). The higher the temperature of external source, the more efficient the operation of pump.
The advantage of operation of heat pump is the fact that it is able to give back several times more energy than it took. Supplied 1 kW of electrical energy is converted into 3 to 6 kW of heat energy.
There are two sources in the circulation of heat pump: the lower (from which heat energy is taken) and the upper (where energy is supplied). The upper source determines useful effect of heat pump and the lower source ensures the supply of raw material in the form of energy for processing. The energy is received in the condenser by water or air and then used for heating.

The most frequent source of natural heat for pumps installed in houses is the ground. Sometimes underground water from wells or deep water intakes is used to supply heat pumps. In recent years air heat pumps, i.e. such heat pumps,which as lower source use air, enjoy great popularity.

Vertical probe

The best lower source is the ground, because the energy contained in it is taken from the atmosphere and accumulated in a layer, which is several dozen meters wide. Thanks to this, its temperature remains constantly positive throughout the year. Consumption of heat from this layer occurs through a system of vertical probes (depth 80-200m). Vertical exchanger placed in the borehole is closed circuit, in which non-freezing glycol-water solution circulates. The heat taken by the pump is converted into energy and then used for central heating and production of hot water.


Horizontal collector

Horizontal collectors placed at depth of approximately 1.0 – 1.6 m are also frequently used solution. It is the height, at which daily fluctuations of temperature are minimal. At this level the temperature in our climate amounts +17°C in July and +5°C in January. What is important, horizontal collector does not disturb in any way the vegetation of plants growing in the garden. The most heat can be obtained from collector placed on humid soil.

Groundwater

If given plot does not have enough large area, heat pump is applied, which takes energy from the system of two deep water wells: wet well and discharge well. In the first of them a deep water pump is immersed, which takes and transfers water outside to the exchanger in the heat pump. Then cooled water is then given back into discharge well. Due to high temperature of the lower source (7-10°C), the heat pumps operating in the system of deep water wells achieve very high efficiency ratios.

Surface water

The source of heat for pumps can also be surface water, i.e. various kinds of water reservoirs. Horizontal collector, filled with water solution of non-freezing substance, decomposes than at the bottom of water reservoir. Even in situation, when water reservoir freezes in winter, it is not an obstacle in obtaining heat energy from it.

Air is an easily accessible source of supplying heat pumps. As opposed to ground pumps, the higher our demand is, the lower the efficiency of air heat pumps is. The fan sucks in air and moves it through the evaporator of heat pump. Part of the heat energy stored in the air is transferred to the heating system of the building.

One of the most modern drilling methods is GRD (Geothermal Radial Drilling) technology. It was created for the sake of small buildings, as well in the phase of design as existing buildings. This method consists in laying ground probes radially, diagonally in various directions and at different angles. The number and length of boreholes depends on architectural and soil conditions. Whole installation of probes is carried out by one drilling machine, which installs the probes radially at an angle of 35-65° at depth of 50 meters in the ground.
